Forest Grass

The local peat was formed on the geological basis of Moldanubian migmatized pararules, in some places it was mined for fuel, for example, for a brewery and graphite mines. The strip along the shore of Lipno was deforested during the construction of the reservoir and consists of sedge stands, in which the flower-flowered bazanov , the felt-fruited sedge, the marsh cranberry and the marsh moorland grow. It is followed by the original bog peatland, where the moorland pine dominates, in drier places with an admixture of Scots pine and birch , in the undergrowth, in addition to the cranberry and the moorland, heather and lingonberry grow. In a narrow strip on the southern edge of the reserve, a spruce-pine forest grows. The occurrence of invertebrates associated with peatland communities is significant – especially butterflies ( blueberry yellow , marsh pearlwort ) and beetles ( Menetries's ground beetle , heath ground beetle , Cymindis vaporariorum). In the immediate vicinity of the monument, at the crossroads of roads near the extinct village of Kyselov, the rare leathery fingerwort blooms in late May. This is its only known locality on the Czech side of the Šumava.

Project area

The territory is located in the western part of the Český Krumlov district on the right bank of the Lipno reservoir, approximately 6 km southwest of the village of Černá v Pošumaví and 2.5 km east of the state border. In close proximity to the Horní Borková peat bog is the extinct village of Horní Borková (Fleisheim). The coordinates of the center of the site are 48° 42´ 26.06´´ N and 14° 02´ 30.32´´ E, at an altitude of 725 m. The territory is without permanent settlement and without buildings.

Borková peat bog is a nature reserve in the Český Krumlov district. It is located in the Šumava Mountains in the floodplain of the Vltavice ravine, on the right bank of the Lipno valley reservoir at the mouth of the Rothovský stream, 2 km southwest of the settlement of Dolní Vltavice. It is part of the Šumava Protected Landscape Area (PLA). The reason for its protection is the valley peat bog (the last remnant of the extensive peat bogs flooded by the Lipno valley reservoir) with stands of Scots pine, sedge stands and the occurrence of rare and endangered species of plants and animals, an important nesting ground for water birds.
