"LIFE Model Forest – for healthy forests and rich nature"
The LIFE Model Forest project aims to both improve the condition of forest habitats and protect endangered species in a total of 20 Natura 2000 protected areas in the Czech Republic and Poland. The aim is to restore forests with higher species and age diversity, increase the number of old and dead trees important for insects, limit the spread of invasive species and improve the water regime in forests.
The main activities include planting native trees, removing invasive species, creating small water bodies, protecting old trees, and involving volunteers in practical nature conservation. The project will also support sustainable tourism and education.
The result will be the restoration of almost 2,000 hectares of nature, an increase in the number of target plant and animal species, and the creation of a methodology for combating invasive plants. The LIFE Model Forest project will serve as an example of good practice for other regions.
